7 September 1533 – 24 March 1603
The Virgin Queen, Good Queen Bess, Gloriana, Elizabeth I is the most storied queen, admired, reviled, all sorts of reactions to her are recorded, depending upon who is telling her story. One thing is certain, Elizabeth Tudor was the epitome of queenhood. She was perhaps the greatest monarch in English or British history. She is to Britain, what Louis XIV was to France.
The first coin below, one that I could afford at the time, was a half Groat from London at just under $15.00. Her face was poor, and so I decided that additional measures were warranted.
The new coin, a penny with a smashing picture of her face was about $115.00...so there is the difference between poor and good in a rather simple coin.
Silver Hammered Penny of Queen Elizabeth 1st. The coin is of the 2nd issue and dates from c 1560, it has the Cross Crosslet mint mark and was minted in London.
