19 June 1566 – 27 March 1625
Mary Queen of Scots could not seem to take a simgle step without falling face first into horse shit! Bad marriage, bad lords, bad advice, fled the country into Elizabeth's custody...Tried for treason...beheaded. So ended Mary's Madcap Life. One thing that she did survived her, her son James...the sixth of that name to rule Scotland and since Mary was unmarried Elizabeth's cousin, her heir.
Hwe was not terribly well liked at all, because of his parade of young male favorites, culminating with George Villiers, who became the Duke of Buckingham . He brought Scotland with him and was an able statesman, but Scotland's arrival back on the stage was the beginning of a century or two of strife.
However, he did preside over Shakespeare's later years, Jamestown, Virginia was named for him and fathered Charles I and fostered a sense of divine rights in him, just for future entertainment.
This coin is a bit worn, but you can see James' face if you squint a little.
This 1603-25 sixpence was about $24.00
